"Tough on crime"
Yeah... Right.
The problem with this administration is that each new outburst is designed to cover up the previous one. This creates a chain of outbursts that exposes the major incongruities of the current White House occupants rather than covering anything up. For instance, they are now trying to sell themselves as "tough on crime" in a city where crime is at a historic low, and despite recent evidence of their preferential treatment of well-known criminals.
The People’s House
And since we started talking about Washington, D.C., and the White House, let's continue that way...
The United States is supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. However, lately, the gap between the interests of its government and its citizens seems to have widened. A house that undermines its own foundations cannot stand. The foundation of the United States is its people. Therefore, the best way to improve this common house is to care for one another—not to destroy each other and certainly not to try to cover up cruelty with gold, as its current rulers are doing. I drew this cartoon eleven years ago after photos surfaced of Putin fishing shirtless during his "vacation." They were pure macho propaganda from a deranged criminal seeking to cement an image of himself as an alpha male to hide his fear of being seen as weak. Ukraine's brave resistance has exposed that weakness, revealing him to be an arrogant yet ineffective leader. Sadly, Putin can still count on fans who are willing to roll out the red carpet for him and put on a show aimed at restoring his alpha male image and inflating his disproportionate ego once again.
The cartoon that was and the one that wasn't
Usually, when you write down several ideas, it's easy to compare and contrast them, and decide which ones are more worthwhile. Sometimes, though, that decision is complicated because a couple of ideas may be tied for your attention. As you deliberate, the deadline looms on the horizon, and you must select one to complete. So, you do... You start drawing the one you chose, then, in the middle of the process you change your mind and decide to draw the other one. Then, you change your mind again and go back to the first one... and at the end of that dance, you end up with two similar yet very different cartoons. That happened to me this week. Which of these two do you think I finally sent for publication?... Although, on second thought, I'm not sure I want you to tell me. Because you might choose the one I didn't choose, and then I'll think I’m an idiot... Anyway, enjoy both of them.

which did you choose? I'd go for the second.
